May Robertson
Violon baroque
A graduate of Cambridge University, May Robertson studied baroque violin at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and modern violin at Trinity Laban, where she graduated with a Master of Music degree with distinction.
Playing violin, viola and fiddle, she has performed with ensembles such as the Armonico Consort, Charivari Agréable and Covent Garden Sinfonia. She has given chamber concerts on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune and at festivals such as the London International Festival of Early Music and the First International Viola da Gamba Festival. She has also recorded and broadcast the world premiere of a recently discovered Vivaldi violin sonata with members of the Amadè Players. With the fiddle she has performed in ensembles such as Joglaresa, with whom she has performed at the National Centre for Early Music and the International Medieval Congress.
May Robertson’s main instrument is a baroque violin on a Guadagnini model made by Jonathan Woolston in 2014. She also plays a nineteenth-century German violin in a classical configuration, a violin on an early seventeenth-century model by Bryan Maynard, and violas by Marco Salerno and Helmut Gotschy.
