Carles Dorador i Jové is a lutenist, percussionist and musicologist specializing in Western and Eastern historical repertoires. He began his musical studies with traditional and historical percussion and classical guitar at Barcelona’s municipal conservatory.

His interest in the origins of plucked string instruments led him to the lute family. He went on to study the lute and theorbo at the Escuela Superior de Música de Catalunya, a course that enabled him to deepen his knowledge of early music.

He then went on to complete a Bachelor’s degree in lute, theorbo and basso continuo at the CNSM in Paris, followed by a Master’s degree at the HEM Geneva. At the same time, he developed a passion for oriental and Asian music, and studied oud with Gani Mirzo. He enters the Conservatoire de Musique Orientale de Paris in 2019, where he also obtains a diploma in tsugaru shamisen, Japanese lute, with Professor Kenichi Yoshida.

The many courses he has taken have opened the doors to the Sorbonne University, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Musicology in 2020. He is currently involved in several ethnomusicological research projects, focusing in particular on syncretisms between different musical cultures.

As a concert artist, Carles Dorador i Jové has performed with the Cappella Mediterranea, the Orchestre de Picardie and Les Musiciens du Paradis.
