Ilia Korol

Biography

Born in Kyiv, Ilia Korol is an internationally renowned violinist, violist, and conductor.

Trained at the Moscow Conservatory, he quickly turned his focus toward historical performance practice. Based in Austria since 1997, he has established himself as a leading figure on the Baroque and Classical music stage.

Alongside his global career as a conductor, Korol has collaborated as a soloist and concertmaster with prestigious ensembles such as Musica Antiqua Köln, Joshua Rifkin’s Bach-Ensemble, and Ars Antiqua Austria. He has performed with brilliant artists including René Jacobs, Anna Prohaska, Patricia Petibon, and Simone Kermes. In 2003, he founded the ensemble moderntimes1800, which he has conducted at major festivals such as Salzburg and La Chaise-Dieu. The ensemble’s recording, Sinfonias from the Enlightenment, was awarded a Diapason d'Or.

His multi-award-winning discography is celebrated for blending historical rigor with modern sensitivity. It notably includes the first-ever recording of Brahms' sonatas on historical instruments, as well as the world premiere recording of George Onslow’s violin sonatas.

Ilia Korol is a dedicated pedagogue, and teaches at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe and regularly gives international masterclasses.
