Sophie Daneman

Biography

Sophie Daneman studied at the Guildhall School of Music with Johanna Peters. She has since had an international career as a soprano spanning over 30 years in a wide range of repertoire. Considered one of the leading exponents of her generation in the baroque world, her passion and affinity for this music has led to collaborations with many of the leading specialists in the field and in particular with William Christie and les Arts Florissants.

Her celebrated operatic roles include Rodelinda, Theodora, and Mélisande at the Opéra- Comique.

Beyond her vocal career, Sophie has become an accomplished stage director whose work transcends the Baroque. Her diverse credits include the Julie Andrews-inspired Chasing Rainbows with Lea Desandre, a reimagining of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater for four generations of women, and assistant directingThe Rake’s Progress and Albert Herring for the English National Opera. She has also staged Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas for Les Arts Florissants’ American tour and multiple editions of the Jardin des Voix Academy.

Sophie Daneman is a member of the teaching staff at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
