About us

Project 2023

Marijana Mijanović Artistic director

Our three previous editions were crowned by the varied and high quality artistic work, welcoming to Prangins artists from all over the world. A series of free concerts and performances have all been sold out, testifying to the interest and enthusiasm of an ever-growing public.

Prangins Baroque is taking off on its next adventure, which will be placed under the sign of a story taken from the great poem The Metamorphoses by Ovid. The myth of Apollo and Daphne has served as the basis for many works of the baroque musical era. The themes it evokes, which are still relevant today - domination and violence, mockery and harassment, consent in love - have inspired us to dedicate this new edition to it.

Our partnership with the Swiss National Museum in Prangins, and in particular its new permanent exhibition Ovid in the Jura, allow us to create beautiful synergies. The show entitled Les Jardins d’Illusions: a staging of the dramatic cantata Apollo e Dafne by Georg Friedrich Haendel, preceded by a choreographic interlude, will be presented in the courtyard of the castle of Prangins on 9 and 10 September 2023.

The new creation of the children's show @daphne#Je t’aime / @apollon#Moi non plus will feature students from Prangins and Nyon, who will tell this parable of a one-way love through text, gesture and dance, with poetry and fantasy.

Our artistic team is once again composed of internationally renowned artists such as conductor and harpsichordist Jory Vinikour, director Marie-Nathalie Lacoursière, violinist Emmanuel Resche Caserta, choreographer Pierre-François Dollé, and contralto Marijana Mijanović. They will lead the singers, instrumentalists and dancers, both young and more experienced professionals, in an exciting artistic work.

The objectives of the Festival remain the same: to enable artistic exchange between exceptional young talents and renowned musicians; to make the rehearsal work, which is usually done behind closed doors, accessible to the public; and finally, to offer all concerts and other formats free of charge. In this way, everyone can follow the process of artistic creation and baroque art is made accessible to a wide audience of all ages, both amateurs and the curious. The active participation of the community of Prangins also remains fundamental to the festival: it is present at all stages of the project, from the conception to the reception of the artists in their families, through management and communication. It is thanks to this enthusiastic commitment of the people of Prangins and the generous support of the Commune of Prangins and many other faithful partners that the Prangins Baroque Festival is an unforgettable cultural and social experience for all.
